Privacy Policy

Last updated August 31, 2026. This is the whole policy. If something here is unclear, that is a bug — tell us and we will rewrite it.

The short version

Gotta Go has no accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing for us to leak. Your location is used on your device to sort restrooms by distance. We do not sell your data, and we do not track you across other sites or apps.

Location

If you grant location permission, your device's coordinates are used to sort nearby restrooms by distance and to calculate walking times. This happens on your device. We do not store your location history on a server, and we do not transmit your coordinates to us.

Location is optional. If you decline the permission, the app falls back to a default city and you can search any address, landmark, or city manually. Every feature except “nearest to me” still works.

Requesting map tiles and restroom data necessarily tells the data provider (OpenStreetMap tile servers, Refuge Restrooms) roughly what area you are looking at, the same as any map app.

Reviews, edits, and added listings

Ratings and notes you write are stored on your device. If you add or edit a restroom listing, that listing content — name, hours, accessibility, and similar facts about a public place — is shared, because the point is to correct the map for everyone.

If you opt in when adding a restroom, the listing is also submitted to Refuge Restrooms, an independent open database, under their terms. That submission is your choice and is off unless you turn it on.

Do not put personal information about yourself or anyone else into a listing or review. Those fields are for facts about a public restroom.

Analytics

The app records anonymous, aggregate usage events — for example, that a “GO” button was tapped, or that a filter was used — so we can tell which features matter. These events are not tied to an account, because there are no accounts, and they do not contain your coordinates or any identifier that names you.

Advertising

The app itself carries no ads.

Our written guides on this website show ads through Google AdSense, and that is what pays to keep the app free. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a wider set of vendors at aboutads.info/choices. Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland are shown a consent prompt and can decline personalized ads there.

Tips

The tip jar links out to Buy Me a Coffee. If you choose to tip, that payment is handled entirely by Buy Me a Coffee under their privacy policy and terms. We never see your card details.

Children

Gotta Go is a utility for finding public restrooms and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

• Revoke location at any time in your browser or device settings; the app keeps working.
• Clear local data — your reviews and preferences live in your browser or app storage. Clearing site data or app storage erases them permanently.
• No account to delete. Because we never created one for you, there is no server-side profile to request or delete.
• Listing corrections — anyone can edit any listing in the app. If content about a public place is wrong, fix it directly, or contact us.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and the updated version is published here. Continued use after an update means the new version applies.
